Case Study – Site Safety Plus

CML are a Leeds based, SME and in April 2020 in the middle of lockdown caused by the Global Pandemic, they contacted Birkwood for assistance to keep up to date with essential qualifications.

To ensure that standards were maintained across the business and that teams were ready to mobilise as soon as possible follow lockdown CML were keen to ensure that supervisory and management skills were up to date. The challenge was to deliver a number of Site Supervision and Site Management qualifications within a given timescale.

CML wanted to train their employees before the end of October 2020, and were very keen to ensure the they would be trained in a Covid-19 safe environment.

Birkwood Plant Training provided CML with their Covid Safety policies, procedures and risk assessments which were approved by CML’s quality control team.

Birkwood’s administration team created a clear detailed plan of the training schedule.

Communication between CML and Birkwood was the key to the success of this project and in these exceptional circumstances some changes to business as usual were implements.

Birkwood implemented additional procedures

  • Working with shared dynamic scheduling, where a timetable was frequently adjusted to reflect business needs and available to all parties.
  • Implementing a system to facilitate movement of delegates between courses, to reflect changes in workload and delegates who were required to isolate for periods of time.
  • Due to the exceptional circumstances CML agreed that Birkwood monitor and highlight any potential issues (learning/mental health etc) and feedback to CLM in a timely manner. Fortunately all candidates passed in good health and with a 100% success rate!!!
